Birmingham has LGBTQ+ sports clubs (running, swimming, badminton, rugby, football, cricket, quadball, roller derby, bowling), creative groups (a thirty-year-old choir, a book club, writers, tango), trans and non-binary spaces, QTIPOC collectives, affirming faith groups, 50+ social groups, youth groups, peer support, and official supporter groups at Aston Villa and West Brom. Most meet in the city centre or the Gay Village. Nearly all are free or under £10.

Birmingham, Aston and BCU all have active LGBTQ+ societies with free or near-free membership. Aston’s meets every Wednesday 1–2pm in the MLK Building. Newman and University College Birmingham have LGBTQ+ structures through their student unions but no separately published society — ask the SU.
Yes. The Trans Tea Room runs weekly on Wednesdays at Carrs Lane Church, Trans Masculine Birmingham and Trans Central meet at the Birmingham LGBT Centre, and Emerge is a youth group for 13–18s. Several are for trans people specifically rather than the wider scene.
Birmingham Swifts, Rainbow Rambles, Golden Babs, the Birmingham LGBT Centre groups and both football supporter groups are free. Sports with a venue hire to cover tend to charge per session — badminton is £6, and swimming is free the first time. Where we don’t know, we say so rather than guess.
Most are. Sports clubs lend equipment and welcome people who have never played; the choir does not audition; the writing group needs no finished work. A few have limits — badminton assumes some recent play, and the swimming club cannot take non-swimmers.
No. Many are explicitly for people at any stage. If you would rather not be identified online, message the group privately before turning up — they will know how to handle it.
We looked and could not find an LGBTQ+ netball, volleyball, martial arts, tennis, dodgeball, a cross-disability group, an in-person parents and families group or a theatre or performance troupe here. Manchester and London have most of them. If you were thinking of starting one, that is the gap — and we will list it the day it exists.

Run by LESGO Social UK LTD, which also runs the London, Manchester and Leeds clubs. Launched in Birmingham in 2026.
